Sales growth for automation firm

Automation firm Mechatronic Solutions has revealed three years of growing revenue – as it celebrates its 25th anniversary.

The company, based at Kings Norton Business Centre, uses a combination of production, mechanical, electronic and electrical engineering to develop automated processes to improve the quality, cost and speed of manufacturing.

It has seen strong sales in recent years, as it has diversified from reliance on the automotive sector, turning over £3.3 million last year, up from £2.2 million in 2011 and £1.5 million in 2010.

Initially focused mostly on servicing the automotive industry, Mechatronic’s customer base has diversified to include the aerospace, food and drink, medical, pharmaceutical and business equipment sectors, and this has ensured the company’s stability and resulted in a move to new purpose built premises in 2011.

Key customers at the firm, which currently has a six-month forward order book, were 95 per cent automotive three years ago, but are now only 50 per cent due to diversification into new industries.

It has also increased its workforce from 12 in 2010 to 30, a figure that includes eight contractors.

Managing director Richard Evans, who sold his tool making company Westley Tools 25 years ago to start Mechatronic, said: “The manufacturing industry recognises that automation is essential for healthy growth but a lack of awareness of the benefits is leading to a reluctance to invest. At Mechatronic we use our knowledge of technology to develop turnkey projects from conception and design to final build. Using the synergy of all the stakeholders, we offer practical solutions that eliminate jugular problems and we manage each project from cradle to grave.”
